The ceremony for the laying of the first stone of the new Proton Center of the IEO took place on Wednesday, in the presence of the Councilor for Welfare and Vice President of the Lombardy Region Letizia Moratti on an official visit to the European Institute of Oncology, of the IEO President Dr. Carlo Cimbri, of the Chief Executive Officer ing. Mauro Melis and the Scientific Director of the structure prof. Roberto Orecchia.
The project conceived by General Planning Srl in collaboration with the IEO Design Department, Eng. Silvia Oldazzi and Eng. Agnese Callegari, arises from IEO’s need to find new spaces connected to the current existing radiotherapy department for the development of a new therapeutic line of excellence: a structure of 2800 square meters aimed at hosting a cutting-edge system for proton therapy, the first in Italy, which will allow to treat more than 750 patients every year.
